Dear Oak Park School Community,
My name is Ruth Marie Carrasquillo, and I am the In-school Resource Teacher here at Oak Park Elementary School. With over 28 years of experience teaching in ethnically diverse communities in the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), my experience aligns well with serving the Oak Park community. I look forward to collaboratively working with you all to implement a quality educational experience for students and families.
My experience as an educator in the SDUSD has uniquely prepared me to serve Oak Park Elementary as your Resource Teacher. I have been a bilingual teacher, a Spanish immersion teacher and have taught second language learners in an English only setting that included SEI and MEC students. Most recently, I taught a second grade Spanish immersion class at Sherman Elementary School. Furthermore, I have been a lead teacher and have always enjoyed working collaboratively with my grade level teammates.
In addition to my experience and skills, I am also a highly qualified educator that is excited to support Oak Park students. I have a Masters of Arts Degree in Collaborative Educational Leadership from Fielding Graduate University and I received my GATE certification from the University of California San Diego (UCSD). I am extremely proud to be a fluent Spanish speaker, which I know will be a valuable asset to our Hispanic population.
I was happy to hear that Oak Park has a morning walking club, because I have been coaching a girls running team for over 5 years. This position has allowed me to help students feel socially and intellectually safe. It also allows me to make connections with students that carry over into the classroom. I look forward to promoting healthy and positive ways to encourage physical or outdoor activities with our students.
